L’ASSASSINO + Jazz in Italian Cinema vinyl launch REPORT
We would like to thank everyone that attended our “Jazz on Italian Cinema” launch event. We enjoyed a fantstic screening of L’Assasino which we had the pleasure to watch in amazing remastered quality in terms of both sound and picture. The event turned out to be very successful with an audience filling nearly the entire Cinema 3 in Barbican Centre.
Thank you to everyone who came to Rio Cinema last week to our special screening of Born To Be Blue. We had a brilliant time!! Thank you also to director Robert Budreau who honored us with his presence at the Q&A and to the super talented Rory Simmons and Tom Mason for the amazing live set. See you at the next event!! The team at OFFBEAT are still on cloud nine following our successful ‘Miles Ahead’ launch event last Sunday. Dalston’s Rio Cinema recorded close to a massive 200 in attendance for the special pre-release afternoon preview of Don Cheadle’s new film and we received heaps of positive feedback on the Q&A hosted by broadcaster Kevin LeGendre (second from right) and featuring the top film critic Trevor Johnston (third right), OFFBEAT Jazz on film/Jazzwise journo Selwyn Harris (left) and expert Miles biographer George Cole (right).
There was also a good showing and happening vibe at our ‘live’ aftershow following the screening down the road at the neighbouring Vortex jazz club where local guitarist Hannes Riepler’s NY-London quartet (featuring upcoming young guest saxophonist Noah Preminger and drummer Rob Garcia over from Brooklyn and bassist Oli Hayhurst) coolly riffed on some of Miles’ classic tunes.
Here’s a pic of the day (more to follow!) kindly donated and expertly snapped by our talented visual media team of Hayley Takacs and Jeyda Yagiz. Stay tuned for future events!
In an upcoming not-to-be-missed event, OFFBEAT explore the groundbreaking work of post-war social realist ‘Free Cinema’ in the UK and how it evolved into the New Wave era of British film in the 1950-60s. Watch this space for the announcement of screenings and Q&As and special live performances that riff on the seminal films of that period.
